Where can we take the children during the school holidays?

I am particularly looking for free/low budget places that will be value for money.?

During the summer holiday all the rivers and lakes have activities. They often have life guards there to make it safer. At St Macoux (near Civray 86) there is a smallish lake with a 'beach' and a great water slide. There are picnic benches and a snack bar (avoid Monday, it's 'closed').
